For parents

What you sign, and what you will hear

Teens talk when they know the room is theirs. This page says where your part begins and ends.

  1. Step 1: Your consent

A parent or legal guardian signs consent before a first session with anyone under 18. If custody is shared, we ask for the court order and follow it.

  2. Step 2: What you will hear

When sessions are kept or missed, what your teen is working toward and how it is going, in broad terms, at check-ins Kenyatta sets with you.

  3. Step 3: What stays between your teen and Kenyatta

What your teen says in a session: the details, the worries, the names. Kenyatta does not report it to you, and a teen who knows that is more likely to keep talking.

  4. Step 4: When she tells you right away

If she believes your teen or someone else is in serious danger, if the law requires her to report suspected abuse or neglect of a child, or if a court orders it.

  5. Step 5: Records

We keep your teen's records private and share them only as the law allows. Ask us about them before you start, and we explain how a request works.

  6. Step 6: Questions between sessions

Call or write to Kenyatta at any time. She answers within a business day, and you can book a parent session of your own to talk it through.

Why it works this way

A room that is theirs, and a parent who stays informed

You are not asked to step back from your teen's care. You are asked to let one hour a week be theirs, and Kenyatta keeps you in the loop on the things a parent needs to know.

  • You sign consent and choose how we reach you

  • You hear how things are going, in broad terms

  • You can use a parent session of your own

Questions parents ask

Before you sign

Can my teen start without me?

No. A parent or legal guardian signs consent before the first session. After the first part of that session, your teen and Kenyatta talk on their own.

What if my teen does not want to come?

Say so when you write. Kenyatta can start with a short call or a parent session, and your teen can decide how to begin.

What if we are divorced or separated?

Tell us in your first message. We ask for the court order and follow it, and we explain what each parent can sign.

Will insurance show a diagnosis?

A claim carries a diagnosis code, and plan notices usually go to the person who holds the policy. If that matters, ask us before you use insurance.

For a teen

Your teen has a page too

It is written to them, in plain words, and it says the same things this page does.
