Session by session
Parent sessions
For a parent or guardian on their own. Here is what a session is, and what it is not.
Who it helps
A parent or guardian who wants support while a teen is in counseling, or who wants to talk through what to do at home.
What sessions look like
Fifty minutes, in the office or by video. You bring a situation from this week, and Kenyatta helps you plan what to say and what to leave alone.
The method
Practical talk about listening without fixing, setting a limit calmly and noticing when a conversation is about to go sideways. Kenyatta explains each idea and you decide what fits your home.
What this is not
Not a report on what your teen says in sessions; that stays between your teen and Kenyatta. Not counseling for you as a patient, and not couples work.
How long and how often
You and Kenyatta set the pace. Some parents come once to plan, others on and off. There is no set number of sessions.
You pay, or the plan is billed. Your fee is given in writing before you start.
Questions
Three questions about this
Can Kenyatta tell me what my teen said?
No. What a teen says stays between the teen and Kenyatta, with a few limits she explains. She can tell you how things are going in broad terms.
Do I need to be in family sessions to book a parent session?
No. A parent session stands on its own.
Is this therapy for me?
It is support for your part in a teen's life. If you want counseling for yourself, Kenyatta will give you names of colleagues.
